On 4
th of Jan, it was possible to watch
a partial solar eclipse in central Europe.
Here, you can see a map by the
Verein Astroinfo indicating the area of visibility. I took the photo to the left with my iPhone from
a spot in the north of the Black Forrest. Admittingly, the photo does not live up to the eclipse which was much more impressive in reality. BBC provides
a nice collection of photos of the eclipse. The next good event visible within Europe will be
a total lunar eclipse on 15 June.
